Summary

Description

The sea front at Budleigh Salterton, South Devon, England, looking west. The red cliffs visible are of Triassic age (200-250 million years old) formed when the area was a desert. This coastline (starting at nearby Exmouth in Devon, and extending 95 miles (155km) to Swanage in Dorset) is the Dorset and East Devon World Heritage Site. The Heritage Site is also called the Jurassic Coast, although Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods are represented. The orange object on the beach is a deflated kitesurfing kite.

Photographed by Adrian Pingstone in July 2009 (on a chilly Monday before the school holidays hence so few people) and placed in the public domain.
