English: Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara (padmapani: lotus bearer), pensive. This attitude is not unique to Avalokitesvara. In the left hand, the attribute (laksana) which seems fragmentary could be the upper part of a flask, with a supple but ornate aspect, such as one finds in certain representations of the bodhisattva Maitreya. Schist, art from Gandhara, 2nd - 3rd century. Hermitage Museum, Saint Petersburg.
Français : Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara (padmapani : porteur de lotus), pensif. Cette attitude n'est pas propre à Avalokitesvara. Dans la main gauche l'attribut (laksana) qui semble fragmentaire pourrait être la partie supérieure d'une flasque, à l'aspect souple mais orné comme on en trouve dans certaines représentation du bodhisattva Maitreya. Schiste, art du Gandhara, IIe - IIIe siècle. Musée de l'Hermitage, Saint Pétersbourg.
