I would like to take this opportunity to tell you about the hummingbird tour I went on. It was organised by Ralph Paonessa, a Californian who has been going to Ecuador for over 10 years. He takes small groups (there were three of us) and he has an impressive amount of gear! We usually had a setup each (he has three) and were encouraged/taught to do the setups ourselves. It was two weeks and we spent the first week at Tandayapa Bird Lodge and the second at Guango Lodge. The differences in altitude meant there were different species of hummingbirds at the lodges. Ralph is a nice guy and is very knowledgeable and experienced. There is a great article on his site which tells you Ralph's approach to hummingbird photography. Brilliant experience!
