Summary

Description
English: Photo of Bono's Orange Stand at 15395 Foothill Boulevard, Fontana, California 92335. In 1926, merchant Frank E. Pohl started his chain of "Giant Orange" stands that, at one point, resided along many of the highways throughout Northern California to sell California orange juice to hot drivers who all lacked air conditioning at that time. In 1936, Loomis P. DeVries brought this particular programmatic novelty architecture idea to Southern California and built the pictured orange stand from wood and stucco and named it The Giant Orange. The stand presently is owned and maintained by the Fontana Historical Society and, since 1997, resides about 3 miles west from its original location at 17890 Foothill Blvd in Fontana next to the now closed, Bono's family run Italian market as a roadside attraction along the San Bernardino business loop portion of Route 66.
