Summary

Description
English: From the nearby plaque: "The discovery of rich mineral fields in the Boise Basin and Silver City area in 1862 and 1863 created an immediate need for an efficient, convenient transportation corridor. Boise City soon became the capital of the Idaho territory and supply center for the nearby mines. Experienced California miners, as well as business entrepreneurs, headed into the new areas. Stage and freight lines followed, hauling passengers and supplies to the camps.

"This route across the harsh, unforgiving landscape of the Snake River Plain became a much-traveled thoroughfare connecting the mineral districts of southwestern Idaho with the commercial centers of northern California.

"The arrival of railway service across the Idaho Territory in 1884 and the promotion of irrigated farmland shortly thereafter, coupled with a depleted mining economy at Silver City and the arrival of motorized vehicles eventually saw the route fall into disuse. Only small segments of this once important road are still existent.

"This particular segment was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999."
