English: Birmingham New Street Station, east end, with 'Britannia' Pacific. View northward across to main ex-LNW Up platform 3. BR 'Britannia' 7MT 4-6-2 No. 70005 'John Milton' (built 4/51, withdrawn 7/67) is on the 10.05 express from Glasgow Central. The locomotive is sparkling, probably fresh from repair at Crewe Works as it was one of those working then on the ER (GE Section). Note the temporary platform canopy, which was a feature of the LNW section of the station, substituting for the great overall roof after war damage, until the Station was rebuilt in the 1960s. |
