I went back to my local city museum BM & AG, to check out the brand new permanent galleries that is the Birmingham History Galleries (it opened on the 12th October 2012).

Origins Up to 1700

The Civil War in Birmingham, relating to Prince Rupert.

A weather vane in the form of a cockerel from St Martin's Church, Birmingham, 17th century.

Prince Rupert and his Royalist forces attacked Birmingham on Easter Monday, 1643.

According to legend, Rupert fired three gunshots at this weather vane, which once stood at the top of St Martin's Church.
