Description Bill Tilman's photograph taken in 1950 from near the top of Kala Pattar showing the South Buttress of Everest (not its southeast ridge) with the South Col hidden behind the shoulder of Nuptse. The misled him into thinking the ascent above the South Col might be much more difficult than it turned out to be.
