Español: Bernardo O'Higgins Riquelme (Chillán, 20 de agosto de 1778 – Lima, 24 de enero de 1842) fue un político y militar chileno. Fue una de las figuras militares fundamentales de la independencia de su país y de Latinoamérica. Fue el primer jefe de Estado de la República de Chile bajo el título de director supremo entre 1817 y 1823, cuando renunció voluntariamente al cargo para evitar una guerra civil, exiliándose en el Perú hasta su muerte. Fue capitán general del Ejército de Chile, brigadier de las Provincias Unidas del Río de la Plata, general de la Gran Colombia y uno de los principales organizadores de la Expedición Libertadora del Perú.
