Text Appearing Before Image:
As a supplement to wire circuits in the communications zone, the Laboratories developed a micro-wave radio system operating at about 5000 megacycles. At that frequency the waves behave like those of light, and a clear straight line path is required. A number of these systems were built by the Western Electric Co. and installed near the end of the war in South Germany and functioned well; one link was over 100 miles long, from Heidelberg to Zugspitze. Usually however, links are about thirty miles long. Systems of this type are now in Bell System service, linking Nantucket and Catalina islands to the mainland .SiAtS JH ijcruumy: a relay point o>i a nncro-ivavc radio system.
