Summary

Description
English: Palace Of Heavenly Purity. Forbidden City, Beijing

The double-eaved Palace Of Heavenly Purity is the southernmost, and most important, palace of the inner court. This palace was where the emperor lived during his reign ("Kangxi slept here"), and where he was displayed in state following his death.

A high platform supports the building, fronted by several huge bronze cauldrons that held water against the possibility of fire. A different feature, seen in the lower left corner, is a small pagoda or stupa which is said to hold an interment.
