Summary

Description
English: Picture of person with FSHD 8 months post op scapula-to-scapula scapulopexy, undergone to address neck pain and various shoulder symptoms. An achilles tendon allograft is seen in the picture, perpendicular to the spine. It is attached to the inferior aspect of the medial scapular spine, in the region of the infraspinatus muscle, of each scapula. The rhomboid major muscles are visible bilaterally, coursing from the tip of the scapula, under the achilles tendon, to the spine. Surgical scars are visible. The right scapula is about a finger's width closer to the spine than the left scapula. The trapezius muscles are atrophic, except for the left upper. Serratus anterior muscles are intact. This procedure increased shoulder abduction, but decreased transverse adduction.

The scapulas are tethered together with an Achilles tendon allograft, holding them in a retracted position. In the right image, the rhomboid major muscles are visible, coursing from the tips of the scapulas, under the achilles tendon, to the spine.
