Summary

Description
English: Bathurst Basin and the Bristol General Hospital. Looking across the Bathurst Basin towards the Bristol General Hospital on the eastern side of the basin. The basin was constructed as part of the floating harbour (1804-1809) designed by William Jessop and provided a link between the New Cut of the River Avon and the "new" floating harbour. It was named after Charles Bragge (MP for Bristol), who changed his name to Bathurst (his mothers family). The hospital was built in 1858 on the site of the Bathurst Iron Works.
