Summary

Description
English: Barlby signal box The box is now officially a 'gate box' as it does not control any train movements; the grain processing plants are no longer rail served.

I am grateful to John Whitaker for the following information: Barlby was opened as a signal box on the 6th November 1898.The original lifting or "pole" barriers were installed on the 27th July 1937. A very early use of such things.

It became a gate box on the 22nd July 1972. The loops then being worked by Selby South. South then closed and the work was taken over by Selby West, which was then renamed Selby. This box now controls what is left of the Selby complex, giving releases to the Swing Bridge and Barlby.
