Français : Brigadier : fonction normalement occupée par un colonel ou lieutenant-colonel. Alors non considéré comme officier général mais prenant pas sur les colonels alors mestres de camp. Un Brigadier commandait plusieurs camps et était sous l'autorité du « maréchal de camp » aujourd'hui général de brigade. Ce grade est apparu le 8 juin 1657 et a disparu lors du Règlement de 1776 puis à la Révolution. Sa distinction : 1 étoile sur les épaulettes du grade actuel (colonel ou lieutenant-colonel).
