Specifically, of the 189 by-elections in BC as of February 2008, 135 have been due to resignations (many of these are due to the former rule that a person had to resign upon appointment to the Executive Council), 45 are due to deaths, 5 are because a person won in more than riding (this is now forbidden), 3 are due to a result being voided and a new election ordered, and one is due to a district being created in the middle of a parliament. | ||
