Engine capacity (a note by the photographer)
The photographer writes:
According to the UK tax office (see http://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk archive copy at the Wayback Machine ) this car's engine capacity is 1465 cc.
According to Culshaw and Horrobin[1], that is not a standard Austin engine size for the period.
So either the car has had a non-standard engine fitted at some stage.
Or it was an export special, fitted even when new with a non-standard engine. (The 1963 UK license plate on a car manufactured in 1946 is consistent with that explanation.)
Or the tax office information is incorrect.
Another contributor (unidentified) adds:
I had the same marked on the V5 of my 1935 Austin 12/4 but on stripping the engine for a rebuild and measuring Bore (2.73") and Stroke (4") it was definitely a 1535cc. I asked the DVLA to update the V5.
