Description
English: The island Cyprus was conquered in 1570 by the Turkse army from the Republic of Venice. For three hundred years it became part of the Turkish Empire. This map of Cyprus was published in 1635 by Willem Jansz. Blaeu (1571-1638) and Joan Blaeu (1598-1673). Father and son Blaeu derived the image from a 16th-century example by the Italian cartographer Giacomo Gastaldi (1500-1566).
