Summary

Description

A scene from the Yenişehir (New City): The building of the Ministry of Health was one of the first examples of the modern architecture in Ankara. It was the first spectacular structure of the district. The site which would be later allocated for the Faculty of Language, History and Geography is empty. The hangars of the municipality bus garage occupy the site of Abdi İpekçi Park which would be constructed 40 years later. At the top, Ankara Boys’ High School sits on the Develik Hill. The ground of the building, which was initially called Ankara İdadisi (Ankara High School), was broken during the governorship of Governor Sırrı Pasha in 1886. Faruk Nafiz Çamlıbel, Ahmet Kutsi Tecer and Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar were among the school’s teachers. We can see the Numune Hospital [literally, Model Hospital]. The building of Sümerbank, the minarets of Zincirli and Hacı Bayram Mosques can be spotted; at the middle top there is Ankara Castle.

Atatürk Bulvarı, Sıhhiye Vekâleti, Erkek Lisesi [Taş Mektep], Numune Hastanesi, 1930’lu Yıllar

Yenişehir’den bakış: Sıhhiye Vekâleti, modern mimarlığın Ankara’daki ilk örneklerinden biridir. Semtin ilk görkemli yapısı o. Dil ve Tarih-Coğrafya Fakültesi’nin yeri boş. Belediye otobüs garajının hangarları, 40 yıl sonrasının Abdi İpekçi Parkı’nın yerinde. Biraz ileride, Develik tepesinde Taş Mektep (Ankara Erkek Lisesi). Numune Hastanesi görülüyor. Sümerbank binası, Zincirli ve Hacı Bayram camilerinin minareleri fark ediliyor, yukarıda Ankara Kalesi. Ankara İdadisi’nin bulunduğu yapının temeli 1886’da Vali Sırrı Paşa döneminde atıldı. II. Meşrutiyet’ten sonra sultanî oldu. 1923’ün başında Ankara Erkek Lisesi adını aldı. Ankaralılar okula hep, “Taş Mektep” dediler. Civarın kırmızıya çalan taşından, andezitten yapılmıştı.

Sakallı Celâl müdürlüğünde bulundu. 80-90 yıl önceki öğretmenleri arasında Faruk Nafiz Çamlıbel, Ahmet Kutsi Tecer, Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar, Nurullah Ataç, Suut Kemal Yetkin, Rıfkı Melül Meriç, Tezer Taşkıran’ı sayabiliriz. Lise’den mezunlar arasında, Ahmet Muhip Dıranas, Samet Ağaoğlu, Orhan Veli, Oktay Rifat var.
