Summary

Description Merenptah Stele (Israel Stele): the name Ashqelon written in hieroglyphs as it appears on the stele (mirror view) in line 27 (context: Ashkelon is conquered, Gezer seized). Transliteration: j-s-q-A-r(w)-n-y (reed-folded cloth-slope of hill-Egyptian vulture-lion-ripple of water-two strokes) plus determinatives: enemy-foreign land (throwing stick-three hills). Egyptians did not differentiate 'R' from 'L'.
Note, in WikiHeiro the text should be written as such: <hiero>i-s-q-A-rw:n:y-T14:N25</hiero>
