Description
English: This engraving shows "the woman of the mountain", an Icelandic nationalist symbol, first appearing as a frontispiece to the English translation of Jón Árnason's collection of Icelandic folktales, Icelandic Legends (Collected by Jón Arnason), printed in London by Longmans, Green, and Co in 1866. The drawing was made by specification of Eiríkur Magnússon who was one of the translators.
