The text on the title page is as follows:

"A / COMMENTARY AND REVIEW / OF / MONTESQUIEU'S SPIRIT OF LAWS. / PREPARED FOR PRESS / FROM / THE ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPT, / IN THE HANDS OF THE PUBLISHER.
"TO WHICH ARE ANNEXED, / OBSERVATIONS ON THE THIRTY-FIRST BOOK, / BY THE LATE M. CONDORCET: / AND / TWO LETTERS OF HELVETIUS, ON THE MERITS OF THE SAME WORK.
"Ignorance of the signification of words, which is want of understanding, dis- / poseth men to take on trust, not only the truth they do not know, but also the / errors, and which is more, the nonsense of them they trust : for neither error nor / sense can, without a perfect understanding of words, be detected.
