Notes A capuchin monk, Valeriano Magni (Valerian von Magnis, 1586-1661), aged 38 according to inscription, was a brother of Francesco Magni (Franz von Magnis, 1598-1652) and a diplomat at the court of Ladislaus IV Vasa. In July 1647 he performed a vacuum experiment (so-called Torricelli's experiment) before a distinguished audience at the Royal Castle in Warsaw.
