Summary

Description

This is a former brewery on Horselydown Lane, alongside Tower Bridge, closed in the 1980s and since converted to apartments. It's brewery tap was the nearby Anchor Tap. The brewery was founded by John Courage in 1787 (whose Courage brand, symbolised by the rooster, can still be seen on many London pubs), and sold to Barclay Perkins in 1955. The latter company were based not far away at another Anchor Brewery (served by the Anchor pub, which is all that remains of it). The subsequent chain of ownership is too complicated to recount here.
