Description
English: Portrait of Amogha (不空; 705–774), hanging scroll in the Tō-ji of Kyoto. Painted on order of Kūkai 821, who added the calligraphy. One of two scrolls to supplement a set of five paintings of the patriarchs of esoteric Buddhism created in 805 and presented to him in China. (Japanese national treasure as part of the set “Seven Shingon Patriarchs” 絹本著色真言七祖像)
Deutsch: Amogha (不空; 705–774) auf einem Rollbild, auf Seide, im Tō-ji, angefertigt im Auftrag Kūkai's 821 als Ergänzung einer von ihm aus China mitgebrachten Serie von fünf Portraits der Patriarchen des esoterischen Buddhismus (jp. Shingon), die im Auftrag von Huìguǒ (惠果, 746-805) 805 von Li Chin (jp. Rishin) gemalt worden waren. (Japanischer Nationalschatz als Teil der „Portraits der sieben esoterischen Patriarchen,“ 絹本著色真言七祖像).
