Purpose of use

As described in the accompanying text, the screenshot illustrates an example of the framing given to the main character in many of the early scenes. The screenshot shows the character's reflection behind columns of numbers. As with the other scenes, the framing is intended to suggest a jail cell, and its inclusion here helps the reader to understand the director's intent to create a motif that goes to his stated major theme of imprisonment and escape from imprisonment. As the image is representative of framing that features throughout the first part of the film, it also presents a broader insight into the effect than a description of this shot alone would provide.
