Summary

Description
English: Chest tomb of Edmund of Langley, 1st Duke of York, 4th surviving son of King Edward III, in All Saints' Church, Kings Langley. The tomb was brought to the church in 1575 after the nearby King's Langley Priory had been dissolved. The shields display his arms together with those of his brothers, also the shield of his great-great uncle Richard, Earl of Cornwall, King of the Romans (younger brother of King Henry III), at far left. Arms, 7 shields left to right:
  • 1: Richard, Earl of Cornwall, as King of the Romans/King of the Germans: Or, an eagle displayed with two heads sable
  • 2: Royal arms differenced by a label of three points argent
  • 3: Royal arms differenced by a label of three points argent
  • 4: Royal arms differenced by a label of three points ermine impaling Castile and Leon, for John of Gaunt, 1st Duke of Lancaster (third surviving son of King Edward III), who married Constance of Castile
  • 5: Royal arms differenced by a label of three points argent
  • 6: Thomas of Woodstock, Duke of Gloucester, youngest son of King Edward III: Royal arms of King Edward III differenced by a bordure argent
  • 7: Royal arms differenced by a label of five points argent
