English: All FDIC (Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation) insured banks in the United States classified by bank charter type. This is every commercial bank in the United States. This data was obtained in August of 2008 from the FDIC website at: http://www4.fdic.gov/IDASP/index.asp
To obtain this data, go to the link above and make sure cookies and javascript are enabled as these are required to use that website. Browse down to the "Find Institutions" sections and click on that link. You will be taken to a page with several fields to enter options into, just leave those at the default values (mostly blank) and click on "find". Some messages will pop up telling you not to refresh the page and other stuff. The website needs to process data so it will take a few moments, after which you will be prompted to "save as" a .csv file that contains the data. It is about 3.4MB in size. This can then be opened with a spreadsheet like openoffice.org calc or microsoft excel, just make sure to choose the comma as the separator for the data. |
