Zdjęcie to zostało mogło zostać wykonane w okresie od około 1915 r. (tak podaje Library of Congress będąca w posiadaniu szklanego negatywu; – Call Number: LC-B2- 4056-3 [P&P], LC-DIG-ggbain-23259 (digital file from original negative), [2]) do najpóźniej 19 listopada 1916 (Library of Congress podaje wprawdzie jako koniec okresu w którym fotografia mogła zostać wykonana około r. 1920; ale podaje błędnie, gdyż 19 listopada 1916 roku na łamach New York Times jako ilustracja artykułu, dotyczącego mianowania Adama Tarnowskiego na ambasadora Austro-Węgier w Waszyngtonie, został opublikowany rysunek, który Reginald G. Russom (1887-1952) wykonał ewidentnie na podstawie tego zdjęcia, świadczy o tym mnóstwo szczegółów wspólnych zdjęcia i rysunku, zatem najpóźniej zdjęcie to zostało wykonane w listopadzie 1916 r.)

W roku 1915 i 1916 Adam Tarnowski przebywał w Europie, stąd jeśli zdjęcie jest poprawnie datowane co do początku okresu w którym mogło powstać, to zdjęcie musiało być także wykonane w Europie a nie w Ameryce. Autor:
Negatyw, ani odbitka nie są sygnowane imieniem ani nazwiskiem autora, na negatywie w Library of Congres u góry napis odnoszący się do sportretowanej osoby: „COUNT TARNOW TARNOWSKI 4056 – 3”, na odbitce papierowej brak jakichkolwiek napisów, (stąd poszukiwanie autora zdjęcia). Autor zdjęcia nie jest wymieniany, negatyw zdjęcia znajduje się w George Grantham Bain Collection w Library of Congress. Prawa autorskie: Library of Congress podaje w opisie pliku ([3]): „Rights Info: No known restrictions on publication.”, tzn.
