English: The Battle of the Kentish Knock (or the Battle of the Zealand Approaches) was a naval battle between the fleets of the Dutch Republic and England, fought on 28 September 1652 (8 October Gregorian calendar),[a] during the First Anglo-Dutch War near the shoal called the Kentish Knock in the North Sea about thirty kilometres east of the mouth of the river Thames. The Dutch fleet, internally divided on political, regional and personal grounds, proved incapable of making a determined effort and was soon forced to withdraw, losing two ships and many casualties. In Dutch the action is called the Slag bij de Hoofden.

Oktober 1652greg. die Flotte der Vereinigten Provinzen der Niederlande unter Witte de With auf die Flotte des Commonwealth von England unter Robert Blake nahe einer Kentish Knock genannten Untiefe in der Nordsee, ungefähr 30 km östlich der Themse-Mündung. Im Niederländischen wird sie Schlacht bei De Hoofden genannt, nach der alten niederländischen Bezeichnung für den Ärmelkanal. Die niederländische Flotte musste sich angeschlagen zurückziehen.
Português: A Batalha de Kentish Knock, ou Batalha de aproximação da Zelândia foi uma batalha naval entre as frotas da República Holandesa e a Commonwealth da Inglaterra. Ocorreu em 8 de Outubro de 1652 durante a Primeira Guerra Anglo-Holandesa perto de um banco de areia chamado de Kentish Knock no Mar do Norte, a aproximadamente a 30 km a leste da desembocadura do Rio Tâmisa. A frota Holandesa, internamente dividida por razões políticas, regionais e pessoais, se provou incapaz de atingir um determinado esforço e foi rapidamente forçada a bater em retirada, perdendo dois navios e tendo muitas baixas. Em holandês, a ação é conhecida como Slag bij de Hoofden.

La flotte néerlandaise, divisée par des questions politiques, régionales et personnelles, s'y révèle incapable de se coordonner dans l'action et est contrainte de se retirer.
Nederlands: De Slag bij de Hoofden (Engels: Battle of Kentish Knock) was een zeeslag tijdens de Eerste Engels-Nederlandse Oorlog, en werd uitgevochten op 8 oktober 1652 in de Noordzee, op ongeveer dertig kilometer ten oosten van de monding van de Thames. "De Hoofden" was in de 17e eeuw de gangbare benaming voor het Nauw van Calais. Het gevecht wordt ook wel de Tweede Slag bij Duins genoemd.

Română: Bătălia de la Kentish Knock (numită și Bătălia de la Zeeland Approaches sau în sursele neerlandeze Slag bij Hoofden și mai rar ca A doua Bătălie de la Downs) din 28 septembrie/8 octombrie 1652 a fost prima bătălie majoră din Primul Război Anglo-Olandez între principalele flote de război neerlandeză și engleză, lângă bancul Kentish Knock din Marea Nordului la 30 kilometri est de gura Tamisei. Bătălia nu a fost condiționată de existența unor convoaie de escortat. Divizată intern din motive politice, regionale și personale, flota neerlandeză a fost incapabilă să depună un efort determinat și a fost forțată să se retragă, pierzând două nave și multe victime. Cu toate acestea englezii au obținut doar o victorie la limită.
