| Description |
Nederlands: Het bestaan van deze herberg kende enkele onderbrekingen. In 1939 kwamen Janneke en Bertha er zich vestigen. Na het overlijden van Bertha in het voorjaar van 1986 hield Janneke, geholpen door zoon Eric, het Café nog open tot omstreeks september 1986. Toen gingen de deuren dicht.
Janneke sleet zijn laatste dagen in zijn eigen vertrouwde opgeving, in zijn geliefde abdij. In juni 1987 sloot hij de ogen om voor altijd weer bij zijn Bertha te zijn. Op 28 mei 1988 werd het café heropend en voor de dagelijkse uitbating een beroep gedaan op Wim Vervoort, Vlierbekenaar in hart en nieren. Na 22 jaar heeft hij op 1 juli 2010 de fakkel doorgegeven aan de broers Joris en Michiel Vanautgaerden, ook Vlierbekenaars in hart en nieren. Niemand zal ontkennen dat deze herberg in het Vlierbeekse sociale leven een belangrijke rol speelt. Zij bieden een ontmoetingscentrum voor verenigingen, rustplekken voor wandelaars en abdijbezoekers, pleisterplaatsen voor tafelplakkers en tooghangers allerhande. |
