Summary

Description
English: A railway in a most unusual place Railways do not usually appear in places like St. Michael's Mount, a small island off the Cornish coast, but this short line runs up from (almost)sea-level, underground on a steep incline, to serve the priory at the summit. It is not accessible to passengers. There is just one item of rolling stock, a freight car which is hauled up and let down by cable, taking supplies up and rubbish down. Whether the cable is wound up manually or electrically I do not know. This small length is all that is visible to the public. What appeared to be a spare cable was lying at the side. The gauge of the railway appears to be about 3 feet.
