Summary

Description 56 West 14th Street, between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, was part of R.H. Macy's Dry Goods Store. Macy's original store, opened in 1858, was at 204-206 Sixth Avenue at the corner of 14th Street, but as the business grew it expanded into other nearby buildings. This 9-story Beaux-Arts building was built in 1897 and was designed by William Schickel and Isaac E. Ditmars. It was designated a NYC landmark on December 20, 2011.
