Summary

Description
English: This is a Gupta Empire era inscription from ancient India. The Gupta era Hindu inscriptions mention Hindu gods/goddesses particularly in its invocations or Hindu texts it cites. They relate to temple / well / some public utility, and a grant related to it, usually to Brahmins expected to operate and maintain the temple. The temple construction and maintenance grants mention either Vishnu, Devi, Shiva or Surya; however, most of these grants do not discriminate between the various traditions / sects / denominations of Hinduism. This is a photograph of a personal copy of plates published by John Fleet in 1888, with Inscriptions Of The Early Gupta Kings And Their Successors, as a part of the Corpus Inscriptionum Indicarum series, Vol. 3. The inscriptions are 2-D art created in or before the 5th-century CE. The publication date of the photographic plates by Fleet (d. 1917) in 1888 makes the work qualify for the PD-Art-100-70 guidelines.
