  • Shield: Azure, a fess dancette to chief, wavy to base, Or.
  • Crest:
  1. That for the regiments and separate battalions of the Army Reserve: On a wreath of the colors (Argent and Azure) the Lexington Minute Man Proper.
  2. The statue of the Minute Man, Captain John Parker (H.H. Kitson, sculptor), stands on the common in Lexington, Massachusetts.
  • Motto: SI VIS PACEM PARA BELLUM (If You Wish Peace, Prepare For War).

Symbolism:

  • Shield:
  1. The shield is blue for Infantry.
  2. The dancette partition line represents the mountainous character of the State of Idaho from which state the personnel of the regiment were originally drawn.
  3. The wavy partition line represents Snake River, which runs across the southern and western portions of the state.
  • Crest: The crest is that of the U.S. Army Reserve.

Background:

  1. The coat of arms was originally approved for the 414th Infantry Regiment, Organized Reserves on 1931-01-07.
  2. It was redesignated for the 414th Regiment, Army Reserve on 1960-08-05.
  3. The insignia was amended to correct the punctuation in the motto and revise the symbolism of the shield on 1970-04-03.
