Description

Postcard showing the third Herne Bay Pier which was built 1899. Dated 1910-1914 because:

(1) The Grand Pavilion on the pier was not built until 1910; (2) The wooden theatre and shops at the entrance to the pier burnt down in 1928; (3) The woman in front of the wooden entrance building is wearing what appears to be a long white Edwardian costume and Edwardian broad white hat; (4) by the time the wooden entrance building burnt down in 1928, it had Mazzolini's cafe name written in large letters across the front, so this is dated long before 1928.

Because of the woman's white costume and the pristine appearance of the Grand Pavilion, it is probable that the photo was taken soon after 1910 when the Grand Pavilion was built.
