Track Red. Built from Oct 70-March 72 A facelift of the XW with new divided grille and revised tail lights. The GT, now with 'shaker' protruding through the centre of the bonnet, it was attached to the air cleaner and shook when the engine was running. Mechanically the XY was very similar to the XW An HO version was also available, with front spoiler, the old Phase 2 engine was carried over from the XW which had 750 cfm carb, solid camshaft & lifters, bigger pushrods From May 1971 to Nov 1971, 300 Phase 3 GTHOs were made, they got the rear boot spoiler, also extractors, 780cfm carb, a revised camshaft and harmonic balancer producing 380bhp, 3 diff ratios were available to choose from. This car has the Globe alloys, that were offered to all Phase 3 owners, the wheels were destined for the XA Phase 4, but after the Phase 4 was canned, they needed the wheels to be homologated for Bathurst in 1972. The Phase 3 GTHO was the fastest 4 door car in the world and is one of the most collectible Australian cars today. Allan Moffat won the Hardie Ferodo 500 again in 1971, this time in a XY GTHO Phase III. Engine; 351 Cleveland 164 GTs and GTHOs made in Track Red
