English: In this illustration, the author draws an explicit comparison to the earlier Chinese tradition of crossbow volley drill. As the text accompanying this image notes, "the method … is exactly like the revolving flowing crossbow-shooting method." From Bi Maokang 畢懋康, Jun qi tu shuo 軍器圖說, ca. 1639.
