Русский: Все творчество крупнейшего мариниста в русском искусстве XIX века И.К. Айвазовского окрашено чертами романтизма. Он часто изображал штормы, бури, кораблекрушения. Его привлекали необычные эффекты света, отраженного в плоскости воды, не случаен и излюбленный романтиками мотив радуги. В картине Айвазовского зависшая над штормовым морем радуга окрашивает водяные брызги, а просвечивающая сквозь них морская вода приобретает розоватый оттенок. Высокая волна закрывает линию горизонта, и преображенная радужным светом морская стихия, с которой борются люди, спасающиеся с тонущего корабля, становится главным героем полотна.

Deutsch: Die ganze Kunst des größten Marinemalers in der russischen Kunst des XIX Jahrhunderts Iwan Konstantinowitsch Aiwasowski zeigt Merkmale der Romantik. Er hat oft die Stürme und Schiffbruch porträtiert. Er war durch die ungewöhnliche Wirkung des von der Wasseroberfläche reflektierten Lichts angezogen. Nicht zufällig ist der Regenbogen eins der beliebtesten Motive der Romantik. In diesem Gemälde verfärbt der über dem stürmischen See hängende Regenbogen die Wassertropfen, und das Meerwasser erlangt eine rosa Tönung. Hohe Wellen überdecken den Horizont, und das Meer, mit dem die vom sinkenden Schiff fluchtenden Menschen kämpfen, wird zum Protagonisten auf der Leinwand.
