Yesterday I Heard The Rain is an album by American singer Tony Bennett, released on July 22, 1968 on Columbia as CS 9678.[1] it includes the singles "A Fool of Fools" and the title track, "Yesterday I Heard The Rain".[2]
Tony Tamburello was the musical director, Torrie Zito arranged and conducted their own compositions on the album. Corky Hale played the harp, John Bunch played the piano. Milt Hinton on Bass, and Sol Gubin on Durms.
Chart performance[edit]
The single, "Fool of Fools", "bubbled under" Billboard's Hot 100 chart, reaching number 119,[3] and peaked at number 12 on the magazine's Easy Listening chart.[4]
"Yesterday I Heard the Rain" "bubbled under" Billboard's Hot 100 chart, reaching number 130.[3] The song reached number ten on the magazine's Easy Listening chart.[4], and number 28 on the Cashbox singles chart.[5]
Reception[edit]
Billboard called it "ballad material" and described it as "He has never sounded better, from "Love Is Here to Stay", A lesser known Gershwin effort "Hi -Ho" is a stand- out".[6]
Cashbox called it "warm, romantic fashion" and stated that "The title song ,“Love Is Here To Stay,” “I Only Have Eyes For You,” and “There Will Never Be Another You” are standout efforts",[7]
In A Biographical Guide to the Great Jazz and Pop Singers, Will Friedwald called it "Terrific Album."[8]
