Times Square[edit]

Nighttime photo of Times Square at 7th Ave and W 47th St, exposed for 2.5 seconds. Might be a little noisy at full-res, but it is 2.5 times larger than the size requirements in the smaller direction. Curious to know if this could pass at FPC.

  • My first impression is that it looks very cold (colour balance seems blue) - any thoughts on this? Could just be an illusion. --jjron (talk) 12:25, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Could be; though most of the lighting is fluorescent. upstateNYer 15:58, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • The edit has the right colour balance... It's good. I see you got a D60 - you haven't always had one, have you? I seem to recall your older images were taken with a P&S? Anyway, I think it definitely has the technical quality for FPC. Composition is probably as good as can reasonably be expected from a single photo. I've tried (casually) on two different occasions to get a good panoramic image of Times Square and never did manage anything I was happy with so I can vouch for how difficult it to take a great shot. This one has all the cliches though - the crowds, the lights, the billboards and the NYC taxi. It's worth a shot at FPC. Ðiliff «» (Talk) 18:51, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    • I've had a D60 since Christmas 2008. Only a few of my photos uploaded since then aren't from my D60. All my FPs are from my D60. Thanks for the response. I tried getting a good photo from the red stairs at the north end, but it was really difficult. upstateNYer 18:59, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'd probably support it. Go for the alt on colour balance. Someone might complain about the angle (and consequent people leaning over), but not sure you could get away without it. Most people are probably going to be expecting this angle for times square. Noodle snacks (talk) 22:19, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • I viewed it at 1800px and the quality is good, hardly any noise at that size. Composition wise, it's a little like Diliff's recent nomination of the tower, capturing the essence of the place in a somewhat different way. I'd support the edit --Muhammad(talk) 00:58, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sounds good guys, thanks for the comments. upstateNYer 02:35, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
