RE: Pearl Milk Tea article[edit]

Trivia: Yes, apparently I neglected to add the once per week part when I edited that section. It was an honest mistake, thank you for pointing that out. I've fixed it. However I stand by the rest of my edit. The original contained incorrect information (see the linked news articles) and was decidedly nonneutral in it's wording.

use the name -> are known as: As far as I know, most of the names in the list are general product descriptions and not brand names. i.e. "photocopier" as opposed to "Xerox".

removal of _much_ w/ reference to 1 cm diamete: Not sure if pearl sago is regarded in the same catagory as the more farmiliar large variety. Will look into this.

skills of making -> quality of resulting product Agree with your point. But "skills of making" sounds a little odd. Perhaps "skill in making"? Also, most people generally care about the quality of the final product be it by skill or ingredients.

AOL[edit]

Sorry I didn't explain my revert - I've been having massive problems getting onto Wikipedia lately and never was able to put a note on the America Onlin talk page explaining my move, as I intended; the whole thing froze on me and I bailed. Anyway, I think your point was well taken but should be included in the America Online article, instead of turning AOL into a disambiguation page. Disambig pages should be avoided if possible - often it's not possible, of course - because they force a second click on readers. In this case, the overwhelming majority who go to AOL want to learn about America Online, not about "AOL" as an insult, so we shouldn't force them to go through a disambig. In that case, he jolly well shouldn't be telling a 41-year-old English teacher whose mother tongue is English how to write his own language, now should he? Do I tell you how to write Cantonese?

You do not normally write Cantonese, you write Chinese. If you simply reverted the page and asked politely, I would have checked my references. I admit that I was wrong. I would like to note that what you did could be considered a personal attack and is bad netiquette, and I am not saying that my netiquette is good either. By the way, my user talk page may have been a more appropriate place for this discussion.

@Kelisi—Thank you for reminding me, and if I was handing in an assignment I would check my spelling (although the markers do not care how words are spelled in code comments anyway). Note that this is a talk page; please stop posting spelling correction posts to such, because it is generally considered impolite. As it is, your response fails to address the problem, and instead focuses on spelling in metainformation. To avoid problems in the future, you would be well advised to post only when you have actual content. By the way, you can sign your messages with four tildes.

UTS, you're taking this far too seriously. My only point was that we should all stick to things we know about. By the way, I was sure I'd read somewhere that there is no single spelling standard for English-language Wikipedia. That page further suggested, however, that spelling be consistent (ie not a mixture of Commonwealth and US spellings) throughout an article, but I notice that not even that rule is observed. I agree with your point about sticking to things we know; however, it is not my opinion that I do not know Canadian English. I admit I was mistaken about the spelling of neighbourhood, but we all make mistakes once in a while. You are correct about the "spelling issue" on Wikipedia, although it is my personal belief that, for country-specific articles, we should strive to use the local variation.

My "taking this... seriously" (or as you say "[my] only point") is to explain to you that what you did is generally considered unacceptable online behaviour. This is not just my view—you may want to take note of Darkcore's reply above (which I moved from the original talk page). As an operator and moderator in various online communities, I strive to promote and practice good netiquette just as you seem to promote and practice the proper use of English. It may also be helpful for you to note that most "rules" on Wikipedia are simply conventions.

Ummm, please don't do that[edit]

Thanks for catching my mistake on my user page. I guess when I changed the example, I didn't make the change all of the way through.

But you should be aware that changing someone else's user page is considered to be a violation of Wikipedia etiquette. It really isn't done. In the future, you might want to just leave a note on someone's talk page to point out an error on their user page, rather than making the changes yourself.

Move of Naquadah to Naqahdah[edit]

While editing a Stargate-related stub, I noticed that you recently renamed Naquadah as Naqahdah. I think the original spelling is the preferable one, for a couple of reasons. First, a Google search indicates an 11:1 ratio in its favor. Second, whenever I have seen an episode of SG-1, the closed-captioning function has been enabled, and the spelling is always, I am quite sure, "Naquadah". If there's some information I'm missing, or a consensus on renaming the page that I missed, please let me know. NatusRoma 05:21, 5 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

CSD's[edit]

http://199.202.235.157/ylg/ontario.html shows just the municipalities in Ontario, and is up to date in terms of names. This shows them all http://www12.statcan.ca/english/census01/products/standard/popdwell/Table-CSD-P.cfm?PR=35 but is out of date in terms of names because it is from 2001. Bringing Wikipedia to Toronto[edit]

I've been working on a bid to bring Wikimania 2006 to Toronto. I have contacted KMDI, an institute at the University of Toronto. They are very interested in partnering with us, and can get us a full range of U of T facilities for free. With this offer I think there is a very good chance of bringing Wikimania 2006 to Toronto. The only thing we currently lack are people willing to help out. I'm willing to do much of the work, but for the time being I am in Ottawa and having some people on the ground in Toronto will be necessary. We also need a number of people willing to assist at the actual event, likely the first weekend of August 2006. If you are interested in helping out sign up at Wikimania 2006/Toronto. Preliminary bids from various cities need to be made by Sept. 30, 2005, at which point a committee will choose which city gets to host the event. Hello, there.

I just wanted to know if you're able to take a picture of St. Mark's Coptic Orthodox Church in Toronto. You can find out the street address online (the links to those websites are on the image pages). The current images are, unfortunately, copyrighted, as I was the one who uploaded them.

The current (copyrighted) images may get deleted, so if they do, then I'll need to replace them.

I need you or somebody else to take a picture, release its copyright, and upload it onto Wikipedia. I HAVE contacted others to notify them also, so if there are more than one pictures, that's OK (I can still make an article on them). I want these images to be used for, specifically, the article "Coptic Orthodox Church in Canada". The image page is, again:
