Welcome[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I see that you've started a userspace draft. Good luck with it.

Has anyone complained to you about your username? It might seem like a silly rule, but people sometimes get upset about names that sounds like a business name, especially if you're writing about that business. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. You can request a change of username or create a new account.

One rule we are pretty insistent about is that each person must have his or her own account. Accounts that someone even suspects are being used by more than one person are often blocked from editing. Having a name that sounds like anyone in the company is allowed to use it increases the chance that someone will be suspicious. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization, like "Chris at Cellport" is usually fine.)

Anyway, I wanted to give you a heads-up about some of our conflict-of-interest rules, just so you would know. Happy editing, WhatamIdoing (talk) 16:14, 12 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Cellport Logo264P.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. File source and copyright licensing problem with File:Cellport Logo.jpg[edit]

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Cellport Logo.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status and its source. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously.

If you did not create this work entirely yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. You will also need to state under what licensing terms it was released. Please refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file.

Please add this information by editing the image description page. If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 02:14, 13 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A lot of people think this kind of stuff is pretty complicated to deal with, but you managed to figure out the process for changing your username, so you might not find it impossibly complicated. The basic idea is this: anything that's been deleted could be undeleted. Copyrighted stuff requires paperwork—maybe a WP:Fair use rationale, but possibly permission from the copyright holder, which gets sent in e-mail to the volunteer response team.
But that assumes that the logo is actually copyrighted, which it might not be. (Best Western hotels logo is ineligible for copyright because it's "just" a combination of simple shapes, which I'd never have guessed, and apparently their lawyers never expected either.) If the logo is not copyrightable, then everything can be un-deleted upon request at Wikipedia:Deletion review, and the undeleted files should get marked this way. Good luck, WhatamIdoing (talk) 07:49, 18 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. If you intend to edit constructively in other topic areas, you may be granted the right to continue under a change of username. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you may consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions here about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
    • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
    • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Closedmouth (talk) 07:57, 13 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

1. My username was previously changed to Betasso in response to Administrator concerns. The original name was chosen a while ago when I wanted to experiment with WIKI editing. 2. I do not believe that this WIKI contains advertising, being solely limited to verifiable historical and factual matters. For reference I used Dolby Systems WIKI as a guide because of the similar nature of both company's. The purpose of this WIKI is to capture the history of this company and provide easy index to public domain information. Since the business of this company is worldwide I believe the WIKI is an ideal place to locate and find this useful information. However, if there are particular concerns, please identify them to me for review. [User:Betasso

Accept reason:

Username changed. Closedmouth (talk) 02:50, 14 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Closedmouth:- now the account has been renamed, can the user be unblocked? Or are there other concerns? PhilKnight (talk) 01:58, 14 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No problems on my end, though it's probably not the best idea for them to keep editing the article about their company. --Closedmouth (talk) 02:48, 14 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
