My main interest is in linguistics, especially theoretical syntax and natural language semantics. I hold a PhD in the area of copular sentences. I have a more general interest in the 'cognitive science' research (as described e.g. by Steven Pinker in The Language Instinct (1994) and How the Mind Works (1997)), in which context linguistics since the 1950s has been done. I'm basically interested in what language is, so whatever domain contributes to this (cognitive psychology, comparative biology, philosophy of language/mind, metaphysics etc. etc.). I'm also interested in second language teaching, and how to do this, and I've taught English for Academic Purposes (EAP), and am interested in how to do this effectively.
