Tropic of the Sea (海帰線, Kaikisen) is a Japanese seinen manga written and illustrated by Satoshi Kon. Kon's first manga series,[a] it was originally serialized in Kodansha's Weekly Young Magazine from March to June 1990 and collected into a tankōbon on July 18, 1990. Vertical has licensed the manga in North America, publishing it on September 17, 2013.

Release[edit]

Tropic of the Sea was originally serialized in Kodansha's Weekly Young Magazine from March to June 1990.[2][3] Kodansha collected the manga into a tankōbon on July 18, 1990[4] and reprinted it on August 11, 1990.[5] The manga was also published by Bijutsu Shuppansha in 1999,[4][6] and reprinted by Kodansha on January 21, 2011.[1] At Katsucon 2013, Vertical announced that it had licensed the manga,[7] publishing it on September 17, 2013.[8] The manga has also been published in Italy by Star Comics,[9] in France by Sakka,[10] and in Spain by Planeta DeAgostini.[11]

Reception[edit]

Tropic of the Sea was also included in the Young Adult Library Services Association's 2014 list of Great Graphic Novels.[19]
