Untitled[edit]

"He was the second son of Thomas Fraser, third son of the 8th Lord Lovat" => impossible : the 8th Lord Lovat was born the 2nd of May, 1643! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.64.241.167 (talkcontribs)

Not impossible. the Fox was born around 1667, which would makle his father around 23 at the time of his birth. The Chiefs of Clan Fraser have had a tendency to die young, so they started having children early. File:Icons-flag-scotland.png Canæn File:Icons-flag-scotland.png 02:38, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The Fox? Was that something he was often called? Perhaps it should be in the article. --Saforrest 04:39, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

NPOV[edit]

The language throughout needs either citation from a verifiable source (if it exists) or rewording. Phrases like characteristic duplicity or Even then, broken down by disease and old age, carried on a litter and unable to move without assistance, his mental resources did not fail might be ok for a clan website but are not good encyclopaedic neutrality Alci12 16:46, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Exile in France[edit]

"...he was engaged about this time [in] a rape and forced marriage committed on the widow of the 10th Lord Lovat with the view apparently of securing his own succession to the estates..."

Since the next paragraph says he inherited the title of (11th) Lord Lovat on his father's death, does this mean he raped and wed his...stepmother? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Esaons (talkcontribs) 12:47, 9 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Jacobite sympathies[edit]

There are a number of statements made in this section without verification eg Lovat was always a Jacobite. It looks far more likely he simply adopted whatever he needed to achieve his aims (like converting to Catholicism to get an audience with James II). The book The Last Highlander. Scotland's Most Notorious Clan Chief, Rebel and Double Agent which is quoted several times in this article and explains in detail that he was pretty much always Jacobite but only adopted support for the Government when it suited him. For example in the 1715 rising he supported the Government so as to enable him to return from exile in France to Scotland. Once he had done that he pretty much returned to being Jacobite.QuintusPetillius (talk) 08:18, 4 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
