Wrong template, good idea.[edit]

Guru Nanak, the real and only avatar in Sikh Gurus, forbid and ridiculed rituals and so called Sikh Rehat Maryada is nothing BUT another form of rituals. Since the article explicitly begins with the "Sikh Rehat Maryada" and addresses it exclusively, is there any need to discuss or can we safely wp:Be Bold and move the article? I don't anticipate any objection. I agree with you. Article name should be either 'Sikh Rehat Maryada' OR 'Sikh Code Of Conduct'. If editors choose to name it 'Sikh Code of Cunduct' then 'Sikh Rehat Maryada' sould be kept in brackets in the lead section. This is wiki english so 'pure english' title "Sikh Code of Conduct" will suit it better.
Since most of the non-Sikhs do not understand typical Punjabi title 'Rehat Maryada' so this article is somewhat saved. But please be cautious, naming it 'Sikh Code of Conduct' will attract anti-Sikh forces of India, who will try their best to distort it. Especially hidden Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh cadres (who might have any respectable positions in wiki), who want to distort facts about Sikhism so that they could eventually bring Sikhism back to Hinduism. Further, this seems to be the name it is known by, as "Talmud" and "Qur'an" (with a redirect from "Koran"). Interestingly, there is no redirect to Qur'an from "The recitation". Since the book is so widely known under the transliterated title I don't know that it is needed there or here, but I think the article title should be the transliterated one (as proposed), rather than the translated one.- Sinneed 17:25, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rehat Maryada → Sikh Rehat Maryada — The term "Rehat Maryada" means just Code of Conduct. Code of Conduct is a generic term. This article is specifically about the "Sikh" Rehat Marayada (Sikh Code of Conduct). In India there are many Rehat Maryada's. Hinduism, Buddism, Islam, Christianity etc, all have REhat Maryada's. Therefore to make this article more specific, It should be named "Sikh Rehat Maryada". See the following references:

Comment Regardless of what it means for Sikhs, are you sure the term "Rehat Maryada" isn't the common term for this in English? See WP:UE. To give an example, the Talmud, an important text in Judaism, simply means "instruction" in Hebrew. I am 100% sure about the term "Rehat Maryada". It is a Punjabi term and can be applied to many sects/religion/cults and groups. All it means is code of conduct. The "Sikh Rehat Maryada" applies specifically to Sikhs, as this article alludes to. We could have a seprate article just on Rehat Maryada i.e. what it means.   • Support Seems a strong case for the move. I notice that some sources also call the Sikh Code of Conduct just "Rehat Maryada", such as the Sikh Wiki, but there seem to be enough strong academic sources calling it the "Sikh Rehat Maryada" to make a strong case for the move, particuarly if "Rehat Maryada" is ambiguous. Alternate transliterations[edit]

Article should be about the SRM, not just a listing thereof[edit]

I'm concerned that instead of being an article about the SRM, this is just copying the document and presenting it with little context or critical analysis. I racked my brains for a good well-developed article to compare this to, conceptually, and came up with Ten Commandments. Notice how that article does mention the basic 10, but the actual text thereof takes up very little of the article, which is primarily focused on the overall implications of the Commandments. I suggest that ideally this article should be similar, and not just quoting the SGPC's publication at length. MatthewVanitas (talk) 15:50, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
