should mention that in syndicated reruns many scenes are cut from shows and that many shows that were popular back in their day (like Amos and Andy) are not released into syndication because of outdated racial and ethnic stereotypes.

In the USA, most episodic television shows run only during a certain season. In the northern hemisphere, this season is normally from early September until late May. This is weirdly written. All of the USA is in the Northern Hemisphere.

Rerun "abuse"[edit]

Rerun vs. Repeat[edit]

These are more frequently referred to as repeats, with reruns the term more commonly used for syndicated programs The industry may use the term repeat, but viewers rarely use any term other than rerun. --RLent (talk) 17:37, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Get the Picture reruns on Nick GAS[edit]

The reruns of Get the Picture have been played on Nick GAS since 1999 & it been played 6 times a day (2 episodes in 1 hour) since Nov. 2005 when Pumping GAS along with Super Sloppy Double Dare, Family Double Dare & Global GUTS left the schedule. Explanation of American terms needed[edit]

In the United States, currently running shows will rerun older episodes from the same season in order to fill the time slot with the same program. This is often done for headliner shows because the length of the year (52 weeks) is far more than the length of a pick-up (13 weeks) or a full season (around 24 weeks). Shows will tend to start re-running episodes around November and show only reruns from mid-December until Sweeps Week in February (where a show will return to new episodes in order to spike their ratings). This winter phase is often used to trial new shows in order to see if they deserve a 13-episode run. Headliners will return from February Sweeps until May Sweeps, with only limited reruns used. These are more frequently referred to as repeats, with reruns the term more commonly used for syndicated programs.

Can someone explain some of the American TV terms used in this article. People outside of the USA are not familiar with terms like pick-up (apart from a type of car), Sweeps (I know roughly what this is but I doubt most people do) and syndicated. --217.201.102.192 (talk) 17:39, 27 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

When did reruns start???[edit]

I was born in 1954 and after watching ME tv 'seem' to remember watching 'Route 66' when they were on which would have been when I was 5 &/or 6 yo. Also 'Peter Gunn'. I am curious as to know when reruns started and if they showed those reruns during the 60's... Anyone who knows can let me know at jackh54@aol.com.
