Citation 5 is four years old! not from 2007 as it appears in the footnotes. The claim that NBN produces the only local news bulletin in northern NSW is not accurate and not supported by this reference. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.170.76.97 (talk) 12:04, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Major Article Restructure

It makes sense for this NBN page to undergo a major restructure after the sale to PBL. I propose a new page for NBN's history, and leaving this page with a brief history, similar to sister stations, TCN9, GTV9 and QTQ9. For a small television station on the east coast of australia, its a very large article, probably to big, and to justify all the history, a new page would suit.

I propose starting an article called NBN-3 for brief station history, and for future information. This would be similar to the TCN-9, GTV-9 and QTQ-9 articles. This would also leave the network article, NBN Television, for the network based history and programming, allowing, NBN Television, to become a defunct channel/network page. Stickeylabel 08:32, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
I have now created NBN-3. Please modify and add to the station article. Stickeylabel 08:49, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

>There's nothing wrong with the current page, with all the station history! If anything, other station pages should be like NBN's. Don't chop all this stuff off the current page, and make another page for NBN history!!

There is no intention to "chop" this article. NBN (TV station) is for the television station, and this article is for the television network. There are no intentions to alter this article, as it is of a great structure and importance. Stickeylabel 12:53, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

To whoever created the new NBN logo...I expect that it'll be gone once a decent quality of the *real* logo is found on the web. Your logo looks nothing like the actual logo used on air. Trust me on this one...they are my local incumbent station ;). BigDan 10:02, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

Why did they stop the Today extra Show ? the only local show made in Newcastle for Novocastrians ??

Money, basically. Big Dan 11:50, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

Does Big Dog Have many Fleas ?

Probably not. :P Big Dan 11:50, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

PBL Purchase

The inclusion of NBN as a PBL asset (both here and in other related articles) is somewhat premature, while a sale has been agreet, its yet to be completed --bacco007 05:04, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

News

Wow! So NBN will no longer be known as NBN? It will be Channel Nine??

Does this mean NBN's hour of News will be lost? Or Will it continue with local news? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.167.234.100 (talk)

I'm treating this with a bit of skepticism, as none of the sections regarding the supposed rebranding of NBN have citations. The only related info I could find was this forum topic, which is full of original research and speculation. I'm going to mark this "news" as needing citations. --Lumina83 09:34, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
On second thought, I've read WP:V more carefully, and it states that unsourced speculative information should simply be removed, so I'll do so. --Lumina83 09:40, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Added a bunch of pics

Hey Guys, I took a pic of the front of the NBN Studio's in Newcastle and added a few Screencaps to the right hand side of the article. There are way too many words and not enough pics. I will also make a separate gallery down the bottom as a I captured a few good pics of their VHF3 transmitter at Mt Sugarloaf. Mashynewie 16:45, 26 May 2007 AEST

Thanks for the pics Mashynewie, they greatly add to the quality of the article :). Stickeylabel 08:29, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
I managed to secure more pics (TV Week Article) Mashynewie 20:45, 26 May 2007 AEST
Wow thanks, the new images are truely amazing and must be very rare. I have also fixed the fair-use summary in the newspaper scan for you. It'd be great if all network articles could have quality images such as these, as they greatly enhanced the encyclopedic quality of the article. Stickeylabel 11:53, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
I'll put some more on there tomorrow (Maybe in a separate section named "Gallery". I'll try and get an NBN News Video on here, also some video from the Live NBN Telethon and other NBN produced programs Mashynewie 23:15, 26 May 2007 AEST

September 11 "NBN first" comment

Um, what proof is there that NBN was the "first network" to broadcast live from New York? Ten was ON THE AIR as it happened!! The first attack happened at 10:42pm Sydney time. Sandra Sully was on at that time, and, I'm sure, broadcasting live feeds before anyone else.

The statement has been corrected. Stickeylabel 12:58, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. You've done a really good job with the whole page.

Failed "good article" nomination

This article failed good article nomination. This is how the article, as of July 14, 2007, compares against the six good article criteria:

1. Well written?: There are too many lists in the article, and way too many short, single-line paragraphs. Needs significant rewriting; see WP:MOS.
2. Factually accurate?: For articles of this length, most, if not all citations need to be inline. The number of existing citations is insufficient.
3. Broad in coverage?: Can't say, as article needs rewriting.
4. Neutral point of view?: Yes, but things like, "NBN Television is highly regarded for its news service" needs proof.
5. Article stability? Stable, as Stickylabel been the primary editor since April.
6. Images?: Fair use rationales missing for Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg, Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg, Image:NBN_News.png, Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg, Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg, Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg, Image:NBN1960.png, Image:NBN1979.png, and Image:NBN1994.png.

When these issues are addressed, the article can be resubmitted for consideration. If you feel that this review is in error, feel free to take it to a GA review. Thank you for your work so far. — Carson 23:17, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

I have now added appropriate fair-use rationales for all images, screenshots, and logos on the article. I have began converting the majority of citations to inline citations. I have also cited numerous statements and facts that were previously uncited. Several lists have either been removed or intergrated into the article, and several sentences have been formed into paragraphs as per WP:MOS. There is still plently work to be done in order to meet the criteria mentioned, so I encourage others to help out where they can. Thanks for the review, and I hope to be able to resubmit the article soon. Stickeylabel 07:15, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
I have now fixed all the mentioned issues, and I have re-submitted the article for review. Stickeylabel 10:27, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

Good article nomination on hold

I've decided to put this article on hold as the article is close to GA status. The main thing that is needed is an expanded lead section (see WP:LEAD), and some tightening of the written expression in parts. For example, several sentences repeat the same words, and need to be re-written:

The station only operated eight hours per day, however numerous locally produced programming were produced including Home at Three, Let's Cook With Gas, Tempo, Focus, as well as nightly news bulletins at 6.30pm.[4]
They have been more noticeable through their sponsorship of the Newcastle Knights rugby league team, their logo has on their uniform for all bar one of the past few years.[19] Other teams to receive their support include the former Hunter Pirates NBL basketball team (and their predecessor, the Newcastle Falcons) and the Newcastle United Jets soccer team (as well as their various reincarnations, such as the Newcastle Breakers).

These issues must be dealt with before GA status can be awarded. I hope that this can be addressed within the seven days allowed by on hold, and wish you all the best with your editing... -- Johnfos 01:39, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks Johnfos, for reviewing the article :). I have now fixed numerous issues, including the mentioned problems. I have expanded the lead section as per WP:LEAD, and I have re-written numerous sentences to reduce the repetition of words. If there are any other issues missed, please note them below. Hopefully the article can now be awarded GA status, and I hope to hear from you soon. Stickeylabel 07:00, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Congratulations on bringing this article up to GA status! -- Johnfos 07:45, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

NBN News

If you agree or disagree please leave a message. I will wait 24 hours, if nobody disagrees NBN News page will be created.--Ingleburn 05:40, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

You need concensus before implementing any article splits. NBN News and Prime News do not require seperate pages, as there currently is minimal information, and their respective articles NBN Television and Prime Television are not at a length of which requires sections to be split. You don't just make an article for everything, that is not Wikipedia's purpose. An article should only be created, if another article does not already serve information for it. Also there is no time limit on consensus, so you cannot impose a 24 hour limit as such, as per WP:CON. Please contribute your time to lifting the quality of NBN Television and Prime Television, as apposed to splitting them. Your contributions on Wikipedia are great, and it's good that you are working on articles :), however splitting the articles is not the best way to go about it. I hope we can resolve this issue quickly, before it becomes a long debate. Stickeylabel 06:12, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
"An article should only be created, if another article does not already serve information for it." - Stickeylabel 06:12, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
I agree with Stickeylabel and do not believe a seperate article need be created. Small articles like these, once split, will clutter wikipedia and create even more unneeded articles. NBN News has a place in this article, and because, as Stickeylabel says, "there currently is minimal information," available on NBN News. I believe this split would be pointless, and a waste of time. GBenemy(it.wikibot) 06:36, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
It's good to see some eagerness in getting articles filled to the brim with information. However, in this case, I don't think we need a separate NBN News or Prime News article. How about you spread your wings and contribute within the current article structure? You might have enough info to warrant a separate article some time in the future. Smacca 07:17, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
I have to agree, there is no need as this stage for separate article. - Mike Beckham 08:28, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

This old chestnut?

I seem to recall that there used to be an article like this but it was merged back with the NBN Television one..that debate is still around somewhere if you're interested.

In the meantime this should probably be merged with NBN Television. timgraham (talk) 11:37, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Article structure

What's going on? ISTR that when it was nominated for GA it followed a layout similar to other articles like WIN Television, Seven Network and so on - with sections on History, Programming, Availability..

Instead we have a much more flat structure which isn't quite as logical. timgraham (talk) 04:58, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

National Nine NBN News???

What is the go with someone renaming "NBN News" to "National Nine NBN News"???? I have changed it back to NBN News unless someone has a specific reason to do so. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.233.236.204 (talk) 00:18, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Past Logos

Here are a collection of past NBN logos, can someone add them to the wiki article (someone with good imaging editing skills). And also if someone knows what years they are from.

GA Sweeps

This article has been reviewed as part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles/Project quality task force. I believe the article currently meets the criteria and should remain listed as a Good article. The article history has been updated to reflect this review. Further improvements could include expanding the lead, and improving the prose and referencing of the "News" section. Lampman (talk) 13:57, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

First one-hour news

I think NBN's claim to have produced Australia's first one-hour newcast in April 1972 is incorrect given that Brisbane channel BTQ7 launched a one-hour newcast, The Big News, in March 1972. Source: http://www.televisionau.com/tv200372.htm Andjb (talk) 07:28, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
