GA Review[edit]

Article (edit | visual edit | history) · Article talk (edit | history) · Watch
Overall, this article does a good job of describing the context, the composition, and the reception. I had a few concerns, however. Most are fairly minor (phrasing, etc.), but I also felt at the end of the article that I didn't know much about the song itself. Is it possible to describe it a little in the article (eg. "She sings about her anger at having been ignored and describes how she is starting over again on her own. In reference to the men who have been controlling her life, she says, "I'm done believing you".")? Note: this would need a reference, which could be the lyrics printed in the album notes.

In addition:

  1. The image in the "Context" section should not be left-aligned directly below a level 2 header.
    Removed. --Efe (talk) 13:33, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  2. "25 years ago" is a dated statement. It should be replaced with something that will not need constant updating as the years go by.
    Fixed. --Efe (talk) 13:35, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  3. In reference to the item above, the entire sentence could be removed from the article, as it does not add anything to the reader's understanding of this song.
I think its fine. It adds something, but not too much. --Efe (talk) 13:01, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  4. The "Context" section should probably cite the film as a reference. See Template:Cite video.
Sourced as suggested. --Efe (talk) 13:01, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  5. The second sentence in the "Composition" section is awkward and grammatically incorrect.
Tried to fix that line. --Efe (talk) 05:45, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  6. The second paragraph in the "Composition" section would probably work better added to the final paragraph of the "Context" section.
Merged as suggested. --Efe (talk) 05:45, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  7. "ending with a chorus" - the song ends with a chorus, the bridge ends with a chorus, or both?
Tried to fix. --Efe (talk) 05:45, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  8. "which introduces "Listen"" - the speech introduces the song, or the album introduces the song (the way it is written, it implies that the album introduces the song).
Good point. Fixed. --Efe (talk) 05:45, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  9. "mostly complimented her vocal performance" - this is awkward and doesn't fit into the sentence. It needs to be reworded.
    Fixed. --Efe (talk) 05:47, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  10. "Pitchfork reviewer" - name? if not, "A reviewer from Pitchfork"
Fixed as suggested. --Efe (talk) 05:47, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  11. The wikilink to "pitchfork" doesn't add to the article, as it links to the tool. In addition, the reference does not work.
    Has been fixed. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 19:15, 13 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  12. Are references available for the Satellite Awards wins?
    1. Fixed. There was an error. Now sourced. --Efe (talk) 05:56, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  13. The "Music video" section needs referencing. The cite video template could work here as well. The directors should also be cited, though.
    1. Started working on this. --Efe (talk) 07:11, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  14. The "Charts" section should be referenced.
    1. Referenced. --Efe (talk) 07:11, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I will place this nomination on hold for one week to allow for these concerns to be addressed and/or discussed. Any questions or comments can be left here, as I have added this page to my watchlist. Best wishes, GaryColemanFan (talk) 06:19, 13 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like almost everything is complete. The lead is a little short, but I think one more sentence in the first paragraph would do it...something about the song's purpose in the film (eg. "Deena Jones, the character portrayed by Knowles, sings the song to assert her independence and demonstrate her frustration with the men who have been controlling her life."). The only other thing I can see that needs work is the sourcing for the "Charts" section. The references do not cover the Netherlands or Eurochart rankings. GaryColemanFan (talk) 21:48, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If I can find sources, I'll be happy to add them. --Efe (talk) 06:03, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Although not direct, I think the purpose is already stated in the composition section. --Efe (talk) 06:06, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
True, but the purpose of the lead section is to summarize the key points of the article. So far, the summary is quite brief and needs a little more added. The purpose of the song would be a logical addition. GaryColemanFan (talk) 19:55, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have added it already prior to your response. --Efe (talk) 06:56, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I can't access reference 27. Does it give the Eurochart peak position? GaryColemanFan (talk) 14:38, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I fixed the link but I removed that particular chart. There is an entry in Allmusic but they blanked the position it peaked so I can't verify. --Efe (talk) 01:24, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

All of my concerns have been addressed, so I am promoting the article. Thanks for your hard work. GaryColemanFan (talk) 03:20, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Songwriters[edit]

Beyoncé is credited to have co-written the song. But why was she not nominated for the Oscar like the other three writers? --88.65.104.26 (talk) 12:32, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is explained in the article. --Efe (talk) 09:39, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
